Post Frame Construction

 Post frame construction, also called pole barns, is a method of building where posts are placed in the ground at intervals. We use a laminated pole spaced at 8 feet or less depending on the layout of the building. Why Laminated? A laminated post has several advantages over solid wood. One is that they will stay straight and true with no twisting, warping, or bowing. Another advantage is there is virtually no limit to the length.

Our walls start with a double pressure treated 2x6. These 2x6's are milled with a tongue and groove. We use two of these stacked up so that they interlock with each other to prevent them warping. Above these we use 2x6 girts spaced at 2 foot intervals. Finally at the top of the wall we use a double header system with a minimum of a 2x10. These are lagged to the post, one inside and one outside.

Our roofs are constructed starting with engineered trusses spaced at 4 foot intervals. These are nailed and lagged to the headers to secure them in place. At our gable ends our poles extend all the way to the top of the roof line. Over the top of these trusses we use 2x4 purlins spaced at 2 foot intervals.

For permanent bracing we place a brace on a diagonal from the skirt board up toward the top of the corner post. There are two of these on each corner for a total of eight braces. On longer walls we will add more braces in the middle. For roof bracing we run braces along the bottom chords, in the webs, and diagonally from the gable end peak down to the side wall on the bottom side of the top chord.

We use a 29ga. metal for our siding and roof. This metal comes in a number of color options to suit your needs. We also have a heavier 26ga. metal available

Our buildings are fully trimmed. Meaning that all the wood is covered and protected from the elements. We have a base trim, eave trim, corners, gable end trim, ridge cap and other trims available depending on what kind of a look you want. Our overhead door jambs are also covered with trim making for a complete and finished look.
